Product Overview

Calcium Citrate, also known as Tricalcium Citrate (E333(iii)), is a white crystalline organic calcium salt. It is widely used as calcium nutrient fortifier. Compared with inorganic calcium sources, it can be absorbed without strong gastric acid, making it gentle on the digestive tract. It also acts as pH buffer and mild chelating agent in food systems. It is supplied in two equivalent commercial forms: anhydrous and tetrahydrate, differing only in crystal water content and calcium content, while sharing the same core functions. It also has limited usage in industrial fields.

Core Characteristics

1Organic calcium source, does not require high gastric acid for absorption, mild to stomach

2Available in anhydrous and tetrahydrate forms, same core functionality, differing only in crystal water and calcium content

3Slightly soluble in water, stable under normal storage conditions

4Functions as pH buffer and chelator to stabilise food systems

Main Functions

1.Nutrient Fortifier Calcium Citrate serves as calcium source for nutritional fortification. It delivers bioavailable calcium and is easier for the human body to absorb than many inorganic calcium salts, suitable for dietary supplement and fortified food formulations.

2.pH Buffer It stabilises pH value in food systems, prevents drastic pH fluctuation and maintains consistent product quality.

3.Chelating Agent Chelates metal ions to reduce oxidation and discoloration, protecting flavour and colour stability of finished products.

4.Industrial Usage Applied in selected industrial processes as raw material.

Applications

Dietary Supplements  Widely used in calcium tablets, powder supplements and capsule formulations. Both anhydrous and tetrahydrate grades are selected according to formulation requirements.

Fortified Foods & Beverages Used in fortified milk, plant-based drinks, functional beverages and fortified snack foods for calcium enrichment.

Bakery & Cereal Products Added to bread, cereals and grain-based products to boost calcium nutrition while stabilising dough properties.

Other Fields  Minor industrial applications.

Packaging&Storage

packaging: 25kg food-grade plastic woven bag or kraft paper bag, inner food-grade PE lining.

Storage: Stored in dry and cool environment, away from moisture and high temperature.
