Sodium bicarbonate , also known as baking soda, is used to relieve heartburn, sour stomach, or acid indigestion by neutralizing excess stomach acid. When used for this purpose, it is said to belong to the group of medicines called antacids

Baking soda is primarily used in baking as a leavening agent, it is also used to tenderise meat. As a medicine when mixed with water, it can be used as an antacid to treat acid indigestion and heartburn. It is also used widely in personal care products like toothpaste, and in mouthwashes due to its antiseptic properties.
