Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is White or light yellow powder, granule or fiber solid, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic. It is a cellulose derivative with carboxymethyl groups (-CH2-COOH) bound to some of the hydroxyl groups of the glucopyranose monomers that make up the cellulose backbone. It is often used as its sodium salt, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Synonyms: Carmellose, E466, cellulose gum, the cas no.: 9004-32-4
