Potassium formate, HCO2K, HCOOK, or KHCO2, is the potassium salt of formic acid. This strongly hygroscopic white solid,  A 52% solution of potassium formate has a freezing point of −60 °C (−76 °F). Potassium Formate is a useful chemical compound in the production of potassium metal and in the oil and gas industry, often in aqueous solution (alone, or mixed with cesium formate), to yield a high-density, environmentally-friendly brine that can be used a a heat transfer fluid. Potassium formate is available as both a solid and in solution form.
